⛽️ Fat, Fuel, and Pharma
Hey friends,
I’ve been returning to some of my favorite lectures, podcasts, and content this week so there isn’t much of a theme to this email!
I’ve grown a bit lazy with my eating habits over the last 30-60 days or so, and revisiting the content below always helps me get back into my disciplines.
Some of these are a on the longer side, but if you have time, they’re absolutely incredible resources.
Anyways, if you’re here, thanks for reading. Let me know if you get to enjoy any of the content below!
P.S. An absolute banger of a dinner I cooked this week 🤤

Brisket beef patties with hickory smoked cheddar and caramelized onions, a beef hotdog, lemon-pepper shrimp grilled in butter, and a couple pickles!
⛽️ How the Body Uses Fuel – Dr. Ben Bikman
One of my favorite lectures in the metabolic health discipline. Bikman teaches how our bodies primarily burn carbohydrates or fats for energy, depending on insulin levels. High insulin from a lot of carb intake leads to sugar burning and, over time, causes insulin resistance linked to many chronic diseases. By lowering insulin through controlled carbohydrate intake and emphasizing fats and proteins, we can improve metabolic flexibility and better burn stored fat for energy.

🍰 The Absolute Best Way To Stop Sugar Cravings – Dr. Sten Ekberg
Dr. Ekberg says that to overcome sugar cravings, you need to address three main issues: carb dependency, the drug-like effects of sugar on the brain, and emotional habits linked to food. He recommends slowly reducing carb intake to make yourself metabolically flexible, and to rely more on healthy fats like olive oil and animal fats. At the end, Ekberg emphasizes the importance of goal-setting.

😴 How Big Pharma Keeps You Sick, and the Dark Truth About Ozempic and the Pill – Calley & Casey Means
This is a really long one, but easily one of the best podcasts I’ve ever listened to. Calley, a former lobbyist for Coca-Cola, and Dr. Casey Means, a Stanford trained MD, talk about how America's health crisis is created by corruption between Big Pharma, processed food industries, and bureaucracy. They explain that medical education and public messaging are MASSIVELY influenced by corporate interests who put profit over patient health. Their conversation exposes how systemic changes in food and healthcare have led to skyrocketing chronic diseases and a sicker population.

Some of my favorite bookmarked posts from X and Instagram recently:
You know you can just order the burger with nothing on it.
No bun, no sides, no sauces.
Just meat.
