💔 Are Your Superfoods Betraying You?
Hey friends,
Ready for your heart to be broken?
Your superfoods are betraying you.
Found within grains, nightshades, and legumes are certain proteins called lectins that serve as defense mechanisms in plants. These little jerks bind to your gut lining cells and can cause serious chaos in your body. Give the video below a watch/listen – it will rewire your brain in how you think about grains especially.
Thanks to everyone who reads these. It always gets me excited seeing people click on the different links. My goal is to inspire curiosity around metabolic health and show others that you don’t need to wait for a doctor to educate you on this stuff.
If you have any ideas on how I can improve this newsletter, don’t be afraid – reply to this email and let me know!

🫘 How Lectins Disrupt Insulin, Gut Health, and Immunity – Dr. Ben Bikman
My take: I was on a 3.5 hour road trip with the family this week and pulled up Dr. Bikman’s latest podcast episode on lectins expecting to move on quickly from it without much thought. I was so wrong. I had no idea these little proteins were so devious! All living things want to stay alive, and so by claw or by chemical something is going to defend itself. Lectins are one of the chemical defenders plants will use. Simply put, eat grains, legumes, and nightshades at your own risk!

♀ Ketone Supplements Help Reverse PCOS – Dr. Ben Bikman
My take: It’s super encouraging to see new solutions for PCOS, especially one that could treat a condition that gave my wife and I so much trouble in our marriage. But I can’t help but feel kinda uneasy about the mindset these quick fixes might encourage. For example, we SO easily default to pharmaceuticals as a band-aid, rather than digging into the root causes. We want the shortcut. So while exogenous ketones might bring relief, I hope they don’t become another way to treat symptoms without ever addressing the underlying problem.

It’s a clinical observation that many dementia patients seek out very high sugar foods!
This is thought to be the result of an energy crisis in the brain as it becomes increasingly resistant to insulin and thus needs more and more sugar to function- analogous to type 2 diabetes
